Gay Flash Mob At NYC JCPenney

A mob of pink-wearing gays descended on midtown Manhattan's JC Penney today in a "buy-cott" in support of Ellen DeGeneres, who since having been hired as the chain's spokesperson has been the subject of a national anti-gay campaign by the American Family Association. JC Penney management was expecting us and greeted all with handshakes and smiles as credit card waving gay men entered the store, which is located at the former site of the famed Gimbels department store. Lots of happy handsome men can be found in the slideshow below, including a couple of industrious boys who bedazzled their shirts with Ellen's name. Fun day!

GLAAD Backs Ellen On MSNBC

My pal Corey Johnson appeared on MSNBC to explain GLAAD's support for Ellen DeGeneres in the continuing battle of press releases with One Million Moms.

Right Wing Watch On Bryan Fischer

Some folks are highly critical of this blog's heavy coverage of AFA radio host Bryan Fischer. Yesterday Right Wing Watch blogger Kyle Mantyla laid it out just as I have here several times.
We often get asked why we pay attention to Bryan Fischer of the American Family Association and the relentless string of bigotry he produces on a daily basis; the assumption being that by highlighting his statements we are just giving him the attention he desires and that if we ignored him, he'd probably just go away. Obviously, we disagree and try to explain that we pay attention to Fischer because he is an influential leader within the Religious Right movement who is taken seriously by leading Republicans in Congress. And today's program provided a perfect example of this, as Fischer spent ten minutes once again going after JC Penney for hiring a known sexual deviant like Ellen DeGeneres immediately before conducting an interview with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.

Freep This AFA Poll

You know what to do.

JC Penney: We Stand With Ellen

The American Family Association's campaign against JC Penney and Ellen DeGeneres has earned the AFA scornful media attention from around the world. For their part, JC Penney says they are proudly "standing behind our partnership with Ellen DeGeneres." Here's how E! covered the story last night.

RELATED: GLAAD is wisely capitalizing on the situation to point out that LGBT people can be fired just for being who they are in 29 states across the nation. ENDA!

One Million Moms Against Ellen, Part 2

"DeGeneres is not a true representation of the type of families that shop at their store. And they're going to be gaining a very small percentage of liberal customers. This will not satisfy or offset their loss in sales. They will be losing more than they'll be gaining. We're asking J.C. Penney to hire a spokesperson who's more representative of the type of the customers that shop in their stores, such as traditional families." - Monica Cole, director of AFA's One Million Moms. (This is our first look at Cole.)

AFA's Poll Of The Day

This one will actually be interesting to watch as the poll is linked to a Matt Barber post in which he stamps his feet because Rick Santorum is costing Gingrich votes. Infighting is hilarious.

GLAAD: Stand Up For Ellen

Citing yesterday's JMG post about the AFA's attack on Ellen DeGeneres, GLAAD has launched a campaign to thank JC Penney for selecting a popular openly gay spokesperson. Hit the link for a Change.org petition and for JC Penney contact details.
