ATLANTA: SPLC And Truth Wins Out To Protest "Ex-Gay" Conference

The Southern Poverty Law Center and Truth Wins Out are in Atlanta today to protest the Exodus International convention. Via SPLC press release:

Conversion therapy — sometimes known as reparative or “sexual reorientation” therapy — is a dangerous practice based on the premise that people can change their sexual orientation, literally “converting” from gay to straight. It has been discredited or highly criticized by virtually all major American medical, psychiatric, psychological and professional counseling organizations. In addition to the press conference, the groups will host a community meeting for survivors of conversion therapy and individuals contemplating the therapy. The meeting will also be attended by individuals planning to participate in a protest of Exodus International’s Ex-Gay conference outside of Atlanta Saturday.

"Ex-Gays" Are Being Oppressed!

PFOX is outraged that a Maryland school board member is "disgusted" by their flier campaign telling students that they don't have to "choose" to be gay.

"We call on the Montgomery County Board of Education to enforce its Nondiscrimination Policy and censure Superintendent Starr immediately," said Regina Griggs, executive director of PFOX. "The Policy mandates that schools provide 'an atmosphere where differences are understood and appreciated, and where all persons are treated fairly and with respect in an environment free of discrimination and ... abuse.' Clearly Starr has violated the Board's Policy," said Griggs. "Starr's verbal abuse, disrespectful behavior, and slurs against the ex-gay community amount to hate and illegal sexual orientation discrimination, which are all forbidden by the Policy." According to media reports, Starr is discussing with his staff how to turn the fliers into a learning experience for students. "Starr does not respect diversity and is creating an unsafe school environment," said Griggs.

NOM is claiming that the Navy ordered chaplains to perform same-sex marriages.

Did you see this day coming? Who would have thought we needed a federal statute to protect military chaplains—and other servicemen and women—who believe that marriage is between one man and one woman? But just months after the repeal of Don't Ask Don't Tell, there is a full-on battle for marriage raging within our nation's armed forces. Last April, the Navy issued new "sensitivity training" guidelines that required Navy chaplains to perform same-sex marriages.

That never happened, of course, but as we've seen countless times, NOM has no problem issuing easily disproved lies when it comes to fundraising. NOM Exposed points out that the Navy actually said that chaplains could choose to perform any ceremony. Don't expect a retraction.
